Currently two different Quicktime Compression algorithms are available: “JPEG” and “Video”. JPEG is more suitable for complex, full-color photographs. Video is more suitable for artwork that has large blocks of solid colors. The algorithms will compress picture files by a factor of 2 to 10-fold.
You will experience some degree of image degradation after compression. How much image degradation you will accept can be adjusted using the “Image Quality” slider bar in the Settings dialog. The higher the quality you select, the better the image fidelity will be, but the smaller the amount of compression.
Compression is only recommended for 24-bit images and grayscale. 8-bit images will be converted into 24 bits during the process and will look strange when displayed on 8-bit monitors.
